The FE 85mm F1.8 is exactly the sort of 85mm lens I've been looking for in Sony's system since I started at DPReview. Nonetheless, in that carefree fantasy land of plentiful-yet-lucrative corporate jobs, wedding ceremonies and endless travel assignments, I skip like a child with a balloon from gig to gig with two interchangeable lens cameras, and a single lens for each a fast wide-angle for one camera, and a fast 85mm for the other. Obviously, that is not the world that I live in. A world where I've simplified, and simplified, until I'm down to the bare minimum of what I think I need to accomplish the sort of photographic work that I like to do. There are times when I find myself dreaming of a make-believe world where I don't worry much about camera gear. This decision to exclude fly by wire or linear MF by Sony makes this lens not a great choice for cinematographers and videographers.Maybe it's not everyone's choice for a 'landscape' lens, but I like using the 85mm focal length for just about anything.
